Cartoon Crisis a la Putin

We have previously blogged about how depicting the Prophet Muhammad can get you into trouble, but today’s Independent has a story on how Russian cartoonists producing satirical drawings of president Putin are not at all liked by the Russian authorities. According to the Independent, papers and publishers attempting to print satirical portrayals of Putin risk facing inspections by the “fire inspectors” or the “tax police” laying bureaucratic hindrances in their way or a call from their paper supplier kindly informing them that the price of paper has risen tenfold overnight. In the meantime, drawings depicting Putin in a favourable light are much welcomed. The one to the right is produced by KAL for the Economist.

Good point. Who would have thought cartoons would have cause so much trouble.

Before we judge Russia too harshly, and its free speech record is certainly deplorable, think though about media manipulation in other nations. Does anyone think Berlusconi gained an advantage in the recent elections by controlling most of the the media in Italy? Or, consider this 17-minute segment by Keith Olberman on the intersection of bad news for the White House with Terror alerts:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/02/23/olbermann-timeline-how-t_n_88110.html

As he says: "what we were told about terror, and not told, for security reasons, has overlapped considerably with what we were told about terror, and not told, for political reasons".

It seems even the British look foolish, caving to the Bush administration on a couple of occasions. The CIA has even admitted now that it used UK airports for extraordinary renditions. Blerg.

I think this is great that we have a lot of No prescription Online Pharmacy. Cause it is easier to save money with them. For example, I want to Viagra online or Cialis online or Levitra online, then I just go to my favorite Online Pharmacy and get discount levitra. I choose it because this medicine works fine for me. My friend had some problems with health, his doctor prescribed him some antibiotics, so he spent about one thousand dollars!!!! If he knew about that pharmacies, he could save a lot of money and no physician needed.
